Financing for development

The Global Taskforce advocates for increased domestic resource mobilization, fiscal decentralization and improved access to international financing mechanisms for local governments in the context of the localization of the SDGs and the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

The Global Taskforce continues to highlight the lack of attention given by the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development to the challenges and opportunities of rapid global urbanization and the infrastructure investments this requires.

The Global Taskforce has also warned against an excessive dependence on private sector infrastructure investments; public finance is and will continue to be a critical source of financing for many public services to guarantee access to basic services for all.

To achieve this, the Global Taskforce has called for enhanced capacities for local and regional governments to access funding at Financing for Development fora, as well as at the High-Level Political Forum.
