UN Climate Action Summit

23 September 2019 —23 July 2019

The UN Climate Summit aims to provide a platform that will mobilize partnerships, resources and actions in order to motivate more ambitious national government commitments.

The latest IPCC Report shows that , acting now, the 2ºC goal and, even, the 1,5ºC goal are achievable. UN Secretary General António Guterres has convened leaders to New York on 23 September bringing concrete, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent over the next decade, and to net zero emissions by 2050.

The 2019 UN Climate Summit is taking place on 23 September - the day before the UN SDG Summit - which allows for greater convergence of the Development and Climate Agendas. The UN Climate Summit is expected to focus on six key tracks: energy transition, climate finance and carbon pricing, the industry transition, nature-based solutions, cities and local action, and resilience.
