Localizing the SDGs

As the World Urban Forum met for the twelfth time, going back to its roots in Cairo, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments sessioned as one of the official assemblies of the Forum.

In a landmark gathering at the United Nations Headquarters, the third meeting of the UN Secretary-General Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments (AGLRG) was held, where the United Nations global strategy for the engagement of local and regional governments in intergovernmental processes, the result of the works of the group, was delivered.

As the international community gathered at the United Nations Headquarters, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments sessioned to deliver a powerful message to the global stage. The Assembly, which took place on September 19th, was marked by a strong commitment to reshaping the United Nations' multilateral system to better reflect the voices and realities of local and regional governments around the world.

The local and regional government constituency gathered in the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments (GTF)  brought over 50 elected officials to the  2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from all regions and many networks of the GTF, including Regions4, ORU-Fog

Since 2017, seven ‘Towards the localization of the SDGs’ reports have been presented by the Global Taskforce (GTF) to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (you can find them here).
