The World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments (WALRG), convened and facilitated by the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, will bring together the leadership of the international networks of LRG to assess, showcase and develop their policy positions for the implementation and delivery decade of the 2030 Agenda.
The next meeting of the Global Taskforce will take place at the occasion of the special event “Sustainable Cities; Key to Sustainability and Development”. This event is organized at the invitation of UCLG, UN Habitat and the Group of friends of sustainable cities at the ECOSOC Chamber, United Nations Headquarters, in New York on 13 December.
Local and regional governments take action to address 50% of the global emissions of CO2 linked to the daily running of their communities. As the level of government closest to citizens, local and regional governments have the ability to play a role on issues as diverse as urban planning, consumption, transport and housing quality.
