Local and regional governments are set to make a splash at Habitat III with the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, the Local and Regional Government Lounge, and a range of innovative side-events at this major global conference on housing and sustainable urban development in Quito.

The World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments

On 16th of October, on the eve of the Habitat III Conference, hundreds of local and regional leaders from around the world will gather in Quito for the Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, convened by the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments. At the Assembly, mayors, governors and elected local and regional leaders will make a joint statement in reaction to the Quito Declaration and to commit to play their part in the achievement of the New Urban Agenda, to be adopted by UN Member States at the conference. The World Assembly is set to mark the high point of the global advocacy efforts of the local and regional government constituency since Rio+20 in 2012, bringing together the commitments of the 2030, Climate Change, and New Urban Agendas, among others.

The Local and Regional Government Lounge

The Local and Regional Government Lounge, facilitated by the Global Taskforce, will be the physical hub for our constituency in Quito. The lounge, situated at the entrance to the Agora in the Casa de Cultura Ecuatoriana, will provide a comfortable space for local and regional leaders and associations to meet, network, work and relax. As well as a chill-out-zone and café, the Lounge boasts a presentation corner where networks of the GTF will launch their latest initiatives.
