New York, July 16, 2025 – As the world enters the final five-year to achieve the 2030 Agenda, over 30 local and regional governments gathered within the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, together with UN agencies, civil society organizations, and national governments representatives gathered at the United Nations to call on themselves as partners for the transformation of the multilateral system.

Local and regional governments driving gender equality, sustainability of marine ecosystems, decent work and health, wellbeing and care!

The United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) will be held from Monday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 17, 2024, under the theme "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions."

Since 2017, the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments has facilitated a report to the High-Level Political Forum of the United Nations (HLPF) on the role of local and regional governments (LRGs) in the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The next report will be presented in July 2023.

In the framework of the 2022 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the constituency of local and regional governments reached a milestone: the celebration of the fifth Local and Regional Governments Forum, which cements the space for our constituency in the global review and follow-up of the New Urban Agenda.
