Local and regional governments driving gender equality, sustainability of marine ecosystems, decent work and health, wellbeing and care!
Taking stock of the progress made since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995, local and regional leaders from across the globe united in New York to celebrate local action towards equality for all, everywhere, and pledged for local solutions to global challenges at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women.
As the international community gathered at the United Nations Headquarters, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments sessioned to deliver a powerful message to the global stage. The Assembly, which took place on September 19th, was marked by a strong commitment to reshaping the United Nations' multilateral system to better reflect the voices and realities of local and regional governments around the world.
On Thursday 19 September 2024, on the premises of the UN headquarters, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments will come together facilitated by the Global Taskforce of LRGs during a full day of discussions to reaffirm their active commitment towards the localisation of Our Common Agenda, ahead of the United Nations 2024 Summit of the Future to be celebrated in New York from 21-22 September 2024.
The local and regional government constituency gathered in the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments (GTF) brought over 50 elected officials to the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from all regions and many networks of the GTF, including Regions4, ORU-Fog
