At the Habitat III European Regional Meeting in Prague, representatives of UCLG/the Global Taskforce and the LSE officially handed over the Habitat III Policy Paper produced by Policy Unit 4 to the Secretary-General of the Conference, Joan Clos, and the Bureau of the Preparatory Committee.
The Mexico City Declaration for Habitat III, “Localizing finance for inclusive change”, calls for local governments to be empowered to finance urban development and recognizes that cities are “reliable partners” for investment.
On May 15, local government leaders and networks from around the world will gather in New York for the first session of the Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, convened by the Global Taskforce just before the Habitat III Hearings for Local Authorities on May 16-17.

Local government association members of the Global Taskforce met in Barcelona from 9-10 February to define their joint action in the run up to the Habitat III Conference in Quito.
Building on inputs provided by members, the Global Taskforce, facilitated by UCLG, has provided detailed feedback in response to the ten Habitat III Policy Paper Frameworks published on 4 January.
